Harmony Federation is seeking a new Musical Director
About Us
Harmony Federation is a 30+ strong male A Cappella/Barbershop Chorus based in Dublin. We meet to rehearse once a month and draw our members from all over Ireland: most sing also with vocal groups in their own localities such as musical societies and choirs.
Our group was founded in 2011 at an event organised by the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers (IABS). As Ireland’s National Men’s Barbershop Chorus, we sing music mainly from the worlds of jazz, pop and swing.
Arrangements are primarily (but not exclusively) in the barbershop style of close harmony. We enjoy entertaining at charity/corporate events and festivals, also competing in IABS annual conventions and other choral competitions.
The 'fun' personality of the chorus has developed over time through show performances, competitions and festivals: ‘The Feds’ have enjoyed many standing ovations, earning an onstage reputation for fun and entertainment. For more detailed background our accolades, history and values, please browse our website — www.harmonyfederation.com
Our musical director, from 2015 until recently, was Linda Corcoran, the award-winning director of a variety of groups and choruses in the UK.
Under Linda’s leadership, our chorus grew from strength to strength, winning many accolades and creating a unique ensemble of men from around the country who meet monthly to enjoy friendship, learning and musical excellence.
The Role
We are looking for a new Musical Director to build on the strong foundation created by Linda Corcoran. The successful applicant will be able to tick all or most of these boxes:

- Living either in Ireland or close enough to facilitate convenient weekend flights.
- A thorough understanding of the barbershop musical genre: its harmony structure, vocal arrangements, performance style and musical touchpoints.
- Commitment to direct one (single-day) weekend rehearsal per month in the Dublin area. Normally scheduled on the second Saturday, this can be revised to suit a new Director’s availability if required. What We Offer
- Professional fees (negotiable) to cover travel to rehearsals, expenses, musical direction and coaching.
- Potential regular paid coaching engagements with other local choruses and quartets interested in coinciding with ‘Feds weekend’. By planning and agreement.
- An opportunity for professional growth in leading and directing an award-winning national chorus.
- Working with a friendly ensemble of men committed to singing for personal improvement and camaraderie.
- A repertoire of songs and good stock of arrangements and teach tracks.
- A well-organised group with an efficient executive committee, Music Team, good website and admin structures.
